What can I expect at my first visit?
Dr. Eby and his staff will thoroughly review your medical history and discuss your dental concerns.  A comprehensive dental exam will be performed which includes; oral cancer screening, periodontal probing (helps us to evaluate gum health), x-rays, and a clinical exam of teeth and gums. A cleaning will be done in most cases unless more complex periodontal (gum) procedures are indicated.

Why is it important to have regular visits with your dentist?
PREVENTION is the key to maintaining good oral health.  Generally you should have a visit every six months to avoid more costly corrective procedures.  As simple dental problems arise it is more cost effective to treat them before they lead to more complex problems.  Each patient has specific dental needs that may require more frequent visits.

Dental treatment makes me very anxious. What can be done about it?
Many things can be done to alleviate anxiety.  One method for reducing anxiety is the use of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) during procedures.  Dr. Eby can also prescribe valium and other sedatives to help reduce anxiety.

How much does my overall health have to do with my mouth?
Many diseases such as diabetes can affect the health of your gums.  Certain medications can also make your mouth dry making your teeth more prone to decay.  There is also evidence that poor oral hygiene aggravates certain health risks such as; stroke, respiratory infections, heart disease, osteopenia, uncontrolled diabetes, and preterm or low birth weight babies.

What changes in my mouth can I expect during pregnancy?
The most significant change in your mouth will be related to your gums.  You may notice them being sensitive, red, and they may bleed.  This can be attributed to hormonal changes.  Soon after pregnancy your gums will return to there pre-pregnancy health.  Oral hygiene is very important during this time to prevent any lasting problems.  Pay close attention to your diet during pregnancy, many women change their dietary habits (increased snacking) during pregnancy causing decay to develop.

Why doesn’t my dental insurance pay for all of my dental treatment?
It is very important to remember that dental insurance is only a benefit.  It is not meant to pay for all of your dental needs.  Consider it an allowance to help defray the cost of quality dental care.
