Always wanted to get a smile makeover? Well, now you can with dental veneers.
It’s amazing how many people want to change their smiles. Even if the problem is just aesthetic it can take quite the toll on your self-esteem. So if you are worried about how your smile looks and want to change this once and for all then you are in luck. Our Okemos, MI dentist Dr. Eric Eby can offer porcelain veneers to revamp your smile.
What are veneers and what can they do?
Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are adhered to the front surface of your teeth using a special dental adhesive. Their main purpose is to change the overall appearance of your smile to give you a more attractive look. Dental veneers are a great way to hide minor to moderate dental flaws including:
- Chips and cracks
- Stains and other discolorations
- Misshapenness or malformations
- Spacing between teeth
- Worn-down teeth
- Minor overlapping
- Teeth that are too small or short
Veneers can be a great way to achieve a straighter smile without the need for orthodontics. However, it is important to note that dental veneers won’t be able to change a smile that is badly out of alignment. You also must have enough healthy tooth enamel for the veneers to properly attach.
How are dental veneers placed?
Once your Okemos cosmetic dentist has determined that porcelain veneers are right for you, you’ll get your perfect smile over the course of two to three visits. Here are the steps involved in getting your new smile:
Step 1: You’ll go through a thorough consultation to make sure veneers are right for you.
Step 2: Your teeth will be prepared for your new restorations. This requires some enamel to be removed, which is painless. However, once enamel is removed it can’t be reversed.
Step 3: Impressions are taken of your teeth and sent to a lab. The lab will then begin making your veneers. While your veneers are being made we may choose to put temporary veneers over your teeth.
Step 4: You’ll come back into our office to have your temporary veneers removed and your permanent ones adhered. A special resin is sandwiched between your veneers and your teeth and then a laser is used to harden the resin. Finally, we will polish the veneers so they look like the rest of your smile.
